LGBTQ+ Health Care

Our Mission
At RMA Men's Health, we provide care for all patients regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) patients have historically been underserved and still face significant barriers in accessing medical care. Our mission is to decrease health disparities within the LGBTQ+ community and increase cultural and clinical competence among our providers and staff.
Services We Offer
At RMA Men’s Health, we treat gay, bisexual, and queer men in addition to non-binary and transgender individuals. Our specialties include:
- Sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction, penile curvature)
- Low testosterone
- Cosmetic Urology
- Fertility care
- Prostate cancer survivorship
- Urinary dysfunction
We also treat transgender men who are interested in gender-affirming hormone therapy (i.e. testosterone therapy) and transgender women who are interested in fertility preservation (i.e. sperm retrieval, sperm cryopreservation).

Why Choose RMA Men's Health
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Dr. Cheng understands firsthand the struggle to find LGBTQ+ allies when looking for a physician. It is common for LGBTQ+ individuals to delay seeking health care due to fear of prejudice, rejection, and embarrassment. As a urologist, Dr. Cheng has the patience and understanding to discuss sensitive issues, allowing him to tailor treatment plans based on his patients’ needs.
Ongoing Research
Dr. Cheng and Dr. Hotaling have a specific research interest in LGBTQ+ health care. They are working on the largest study of gay and bisexual men pursuing parenthood. Dr. Cheng also recently wrote a paper highlighting sexual dysfunction in men who have sex with men. Research shows that gay and bisexual men have higher rates of sexual dysfunction, sexually transmitted infections, and mental health disorders than their heterosexual counterparts. Furthermore, gay and bisexual men who undergo treatment for prostate cancer experience worse quality of life and more dissatisfaction with their health care. In order to address these disparities, our providers at RMA Men’s Health are specially trained to treat sexual and gender minority individuals.
